MONSTERS OF ROCK NAMES WRIF/DETROIT AS NEW FLAGSHIP STATION

 

 New York, NY – May 31, 2012 -- After over a decade of broadcasting from the heart of the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, CA, the highly successful “Monsters of Rock” radio program is officially packing their CD’s & moving east.   Harlan Hendrickson, host and creator of the Monsters of Rock, will now make his home at Greater Media’s rock radio station 101.1 WRIF/Detroit as the station becomes his new flagship affiliate.   The Monsters of Rock will continue to syndicate the show nationally through United Stations Radio Networks (www.unitedstations.com) where it currently airs in close to 50 markets in the U.S.   United Stations has been handling the show for sales and affiliations since the summer of 2010.

 In Detroit, the three-hour program will air on WRIF on Sunday Nights from 6pm-9pm. According to WRIF Program Director, Mark Pennington, “Adding a show like Monsters of Rock to our already amazing line up was a no-brainer.   Harlan definitely shares the same passion for rock music as we do, and we’re excited to have him on board.”   In turn, Harlan Hendrickson commented, “It’s such an honor to be able to call a station like WRIF home.  They’ve been incredibly influential in the rock radio landscape and they’re one of the last true rock stations in the country.”

 The Monsters of Rock first debuted in the summer of 1999, and has since developed a large and loyal listenership.   “Monsters” generates winning ratings in its time slots among males 25-54 in the majority of markets where it’s broadcast. Recent guests on the show have included of AC/DC, Cinderella, Ozzy Osbourne, Bon Jovi, Cheap Trick, Motley Crue, Ratt and Poison.

Featuring some of the greatest artists of the ’70s and ’80s era, the Monsters of Rock cruise will be an epic voyage, not to be missed by the avid heavy metal fan. This cruise journey will visit CoCoCay and Freeport, Bahamas plus a rockin’ bonus day at sea, sailing the emerald waters of the Bahamas, in this unprecedented heavy metal festival at sea.

The cruise is based on a legendary rock festival at Castle Donington, Leicestershire, England. Seven metal bands and thousands of rabid fans converged on the soggy turf of Donington Park and became part of rock history as a historic event was born — the Monsters of Rock. Fast forward to today. The tradition of the Monsters of Rock is reborn, this time in the Bahamas aboard a luxury cruise ship, showcasing the greatest floating ’80s heavy metal festival in history.

For one all-inclusive price, fans will enjoy a myriad of special heavy metal concerts, events and activities, designed to please the most discerning rock ‘n’ roll metalhead. While the music is the centerpiece, this is more than a concert cruise event. It is fantasy camp designed for interaction between artists and fans.
